I've got an old Crystal case and Ive decided its time to attempt some painting. After seeing those painted shielding mods Ive been meaning to have a go at this for ages. Got myself some lovely metallic blue paint. Anyone got any tips before I give it a go ?

Also anyone got any links or pictures of crystals posted in the past with the shielding painted. There was one guy with a few pics in his sig but I cant seem to find anything anywhere. sad.gif

You're loooking for Duck of Death. He is the one who did all the crazy-snazzy painting of shielding in crystals.

Hope that helps smile.gif

You don't need nu tut dude.. biggrin.gif

Just open up the thing are tare the thing apart. Its really easy.. My advise is learning by doing..

I like the idea, so think i'm gonna use it on the my crystal box (the one in my sig)..

Good luck.. Let's see the result.. biggrin.gif Lets see who gets it done first.. biggrin.gif just kidding..

yea just take every thin out the case use aflat headed skewdriver to get the metal off the in side lid sprey it then get a screwdriver wiv no bit in (so its just a hole) put it over the screw hole and press down this should fit the shieliding back down the bottom just pulls off.

Im also about to do and have done some research. Biggest problem I had was finding a paint that I wanted to use as the other people who have done this have been from the US and are not available in the UK.
Ive now decided to use tamiya paint which is usually used on RC cars.

Others I have seen are:

DuckOfDeath's red one
DuckOfDeath's blue one
and Ball3's blue one

good luck! pop.gif

It's not that hard to do at all... infact, you don't have to worry so much about minor imperfections in the paint, because you won't be able to really see them under the plastic.

What type of paint did you buy?

For mine, I used the Krylon X-Metal with the basecoat, and it came out great. Dupli-color metal specks works well as well... i've heard.

Here's the most recent one i did:

I'm still waiting for the top shielding to completely cure before I put it in. Otherwise, there'll be gouges in the paint thanks to the plastic.
