It's funny you mention that pike...I've been using XBMC in 1080i 16:9 on a NTSC 32" Sammy CRT HDTV....every now and again (depending on the file) I get some issues - severe hiccups, not playing the file etc.

I don't know how many threads I've seen on here (and I know you guys have too) where people are troubled to find that "the newest version of XBMC" is not playing their "DivX files".

When in reality, the problem is something else....

Most of these issues can be resolved by tweaking the cache settings, altering the display resolution, finding a more adequately interleaved file, or properly setting up your network permission settings.

I know that you peeps already know all this...perhaps a small post-it note somewhere might limit these questions...I guess the search function serves this well enough...

Anyhoo...neat thread. The upconversion in XBMC is very cool and turns a $150 machine into a valuable commodity.

Why is there no 576i in the poll? After all, XBMC uses 720x576 (interlaced) for PAL. wink.gif

You will only need 576i as an extra option. Normal NTSC is 480i (720x480 interlaced). I will contact Pike and see if he wants to add this option. smile.gif

480i and 576i should technically be in the same category IMO.

And on what is your opinion based?

Personally, I can see the difference between NTSC and PAL. The resolution differs, but also the refresh rate. Saying which one of the two is better would open an 30 year old flamewar, but there is a notable difference.

@Pike

Thanks for explaining. smile.gif

I'd think most people using 480i is using an NTSC display while people using 576i is using a Pal display.
