Through searching I've found hokies game icons, how to do my own icons, and how to get icons to display for movie "folders" as in:
QUOTE
f:/movies/nameofmovie1
f:/movies/nameofmovie2
f:/movies/nameofmovie1.tbn
f:/movies/nameofmovie2.tbn

I have 2 quesitons.

Is there a way to get an icon to display for nameofmovie.avi itself, and not just having an icon for the folder its in.

Second question, is there a way to get icons to display for files/folders located on pc shares.

Using the folder method I was able to get an icon to display for a flick on the xbox, but with the same flick on the pc, using the same method, it didnt work. It blanked out the standard icon like it would display something, but just a big grey box.

Any and all help is appreciated. Thanks.

check the settings, you must tell XBMC to look for icons on remote shares, it's turned off by default to speed up browsing. when its turned on, file & folder thumbnail icons work exactly as they do locally (filename.tbn and folder.jpg)
