Symptoms:

My xbox started freezing alot. Today i arived home and the xbox was eaisly at room temp i turn it on and with a second or two it freezes at the flubber screen! blink.gif

My xbox also randomly powers down sometimes!!! when it shuts off i try turning it back on and some times (not often) but it turns it back off again right after hitting the button!

INFO

Xbox 1.0 with 80 GB HD a 7200 RPM

New 1.1 heatsink on xbox

Samsung SDG 605B DVD Drive

Delta electronics PSU

no other major modifications

i run the rear fan around 30%

I know this sounds like a heat issue but my xbox is freezing up at tempatures around

105 at the mobo & 130 on the CPU (acording to evox) this heat is measured in F

sometimes it freezes at lower temps! AHHH!

From my knowledge most xbox's can easily withhold those tempatures without freezing!

What else is doing these strange things to my xbox like the sudden power loss that randomly happens!

any ideas would help!

After you check the cache, make sure the MCPX isn't dead.

You know on 1.0/1.1 if you split the TSOP you have to put a heatsink on the MCPX. Basically it controls the IDE (basically how hard drive and dvd connect to mobo).

It's the big chip near the LPC that says "Nvidia... MCPX X3..."

basically just see that it's not getting super hot, when these things go they turn into ovens and start smoking and fun stuff like that.

It might be ram too.

I had a 1.1 motherboard that was doing similar stuff, and I had a second board that had a fried MCPX, but the ram was good so I took it off and put the ram on the 1.1 board that was acting up and now it works fine.

However, in your best interest, i'd just say it's fried. No offense, but if you can't even find the MCPX, desoldering and soldering 4X 100 pin 0.65mm pitch HIGHLY STATIC SENSITIVE chips is way too much for you.
