mtkflash only recognized IDE Sec Master/Slave need SATA

i am having such a headache about mtkflash bieng able to read my sata connections for the xbox 360 drive with sata! When running the program mtkflash it will only recognize
1: IDE Sec Master
2: Ide Sec Slave

I have tried so many variations to do it, i have completely unplugged all ide and hard drive to have connected only my Floppy Drive and XBOX 360 Sata Connection with the xbox360 drive powered through the system(not pc)! When Ide is not connected i always get drives not found when the 360 drive and floppy is connected.

Now i have been reading similar problems and the only thing i see that is the problem is that i guess i have RAID still on. I don't know how to switch from raid to what i need it to be! Another thing is i completely don't know what chipset i have? Is there a way to check and could it be explained?

Please any answer is appreciated!

When i done mine it also said

1 IDE master
2 IDE slave

and would not read the drives flash, someone told me to use the following command and it worked like a charm....

mtkflash r /sata backup.bin

It will still say IDE master/slave but just press 1 and it will read from sata

Try that and let us know if it helped...

the only way a drive is connected is if i actually have a ide dvd drive connected!

So should i keep an ide dvd connected, then us command mtkflash r/sata backup.bin and should this force to read sata?

If i have no ide dvd drives connected it will always say drive not found!!

Got mine sorted out, I unplugged all the IDE cables and just left the Sata cable from the xbox360 and the floppy plugged in. Turned the PC on and booted up with the xp boot disc waited until I saw the a:\> sign and then turned the Xbox360 on. typed in mtkflash r backup.bin or mtkflash r /sata backup.bin and selected option 1 and it worked first time.

Thanks to Kafluke for the help of suggesting it all biggrin.gif

i haven't tried it with that exact timing yet, but anytime i have no ide connected mtkflash never recognizes any drives, always says drives not found!

i ended up purchasing the VIA 6421 and waiting for it to arrive in the mail and will keep trying methods untill it arrives.

I have a MS-7184 motherboard also and am having problems with mtkflash. With the regular mtkflash the xbox drive was never seen (only the drives on the secondary IDE channel if they were plugged in)

I modified mtkflash (following directions here: http://forums.xbox-s...owtopic=514126). There's nothing listed in msinfo32 under Storage->SCSI, so I tried the device listed under Storage-IDE. I found the two IO ports described in the thread and with the modified mtkflash.exe it recognizes that a device exists. If I boot with the xbox drive plugged in to the second SATA channel, mtkflash lists a master and slave device on that channel.

But, if I select either of these options, mtkflash seems to just hang. I can stop the program with ctrl-c, but otherwise the program just sits there. (I left it for 10 minutes or so and nothing happened) (this same thing happens if I select one of the IDE dvd drives in the PC, mtkflash doesn't give an error or anything, it just sits there)

So I don't know if I'm really any closer now..

Don't plug in the SATA cable from the TS-H943 into the computer until after you're at the DOS prompt. Try powering the 360 on prior to connecting it, and if that doesn't work, try turning on the 360 with it connected, then run mtkflash.exe.

I tried it those ways and all of them have the same result - the master and slave devices are both seen for whatever SATA port i plug into (primary or secondary). Whether I choose master or slave, the program stops after the next line. (where it says the port it is using - FE00 or FC00 depending if I plug the drive into the first or second SATA port). Maybe mtkflash is autodetecting the port it wants to use ?

I noticed that when I use a version of mtkflash with the PNP ID of this controller, but with the ports set to 0170/01F0, mtkflash will list the master/slave options and then on the next line it will still say FE00 or FC00 (not 0170/01F0 as is in mtkflash.exe).

In the Storage->SCSI area of msinfo32 I don't have anything listed, this is what I have in the Storage->IDE area:

So the 8 bytes I patched into mtkflash are: 02 10 79 43 00 FE 00 FC

Any other ideas?

SATA is enabled on your motherboard bios? You should at least see a SATA controller in windows under msinfo32.exe.

In BIOS, the 'Onboard SATA-1 Adapter' is enabled. Whatever is connected to the two SATA plugs shows up in the BIOS as Third and Fourth channel devices (after devices on the two IDE channels)

Windows is on a SATA HD, so the SATA adapter is working. I can see the xbox drive listed in the BIOS if I boot the PC with the xbox drive already powered up.

i truly believe that i had tried just about everything here with all tips and coming to the conclusion that my motherboard / onboard sata controller just plain doesn't detect my samsung xbox 360 drive!

Just a correction, i found out exactly what motherboard i have!! Heres the Fixed RUNDOWN!

COMP: HP Pavilion a1477c-b
MOTHERBOARD: RS480-M / Rs48X
SATA southbridge: ati ixp 450

I even updated my sata driver and still nothing, and i tried to update my bios but it won't allow me to for some odd reason(the flasher for the update says my bios is locked)!

The PC I'm having trouble with is a HP Pavilion a1250n with an ATI IXP 400 southbridge.

I tried modifying and using this mtkati.exe, which can at least see that something is plugged into the SATA bus, but it won't do anything past that.
