Okay, please dont laugh at me for this. I just obtained 1 (yes one) blue led (I'm not allowed to buy off the internet sad.gif ). Well anyway I was wondering if someone could think of something neat I could do with it on my xbox. Somewhere where it will be quite visible, its a pretty damn bright led (I'm not sure of the mcd since I ripped it out of something). But this will likely be the only led that I'll get for quite a while so I want to make it visible and nice looking. Thanks for any ideas.

Hard drive activity led

You can buy LEDs at radioshack (albeit expensive) and not just off the interweb

Yeah but radioshack LEDs are utter shit, and like you said quite expensive. Also I live in a fairly small town, and our radioshack is shit, they sell nothing but switches and audio/video equipment. So either way I'm probably stuck ordering off the internet somehow.

However I will try the hard drive activity LED, once I get a new soldering iron (my radioshack one is pretty fucked up now, the end is like round laugh.gif ). Any suggestions on how to mount it (I would prefer not to have the LED poking out of the case)?

Possibly, I'll see if I have an old pair of headphones or something to try it on.

Still gonna do the hard drive led mod though.

i doubt hell be able to get the proper resistor if he cant even get leds..

especially if its just ripped out of something

i have a red one i got out of a dvd player im using for a mod, and i have no clue wat the values are. radioshack is no help either. they dont have the switches, relays, leds, or anything you need lol its really rediculous. i went to one of their larger stores, and the selection sucked. the bi colored leds were all colors u wouldnt want to mix, the regular leds either werent the right size, or some wierd type (infrared, flashing), and they didnt have the corresponding resistors.

Lmfao yeah radioshack really sucks. I do have the right resistors though, I rip apart alot of old electronic things that I don't use anymore. I also do have a few leds but they are mostly green with a couple of red ones mixed in (I like blue). It sucks having parents that won't buy off the net. Lol is there any other way I can buy from the internet (do any of the LED sites do Cash on Delivery or anything)?

Drill the case. Fill the hole with hot glue so it's smooth with the case. Then stick the led behind it so it shines through. It's what I did for the light on my directv box and I think it looks really good. Plus it's sleak and stealth.

The hot glue will definetly diffuse it. If it's still too bright what you can do is have the led shine at an angle on the hot glue hole. It will still be very noticable but not terribly bright.
