Hi, I just bought a new Platinum Xbox 360 for $340 and in the box came an offer from MSFT for a 2 year extended warranty. The unit itself currently has a 90 day warranty and I bought it with a credit card (Amex) that doubles the warranty for me.

Now, to my pleasant surprise the Xbox unit I got has a Samsung Drive. I bought the unit due to its potential of being modified, but would also like to utilize the Xbox 360 to its fullest extent, such as playing Xbox Live for a couple of months to see how it is, still learning the Xbox Live hype.

But I need help, I can't decide if I should buy the 2 year additional warranty, considering that at some point when the quirks of the Samsung Drive are worked out, I would like to play around with modifications.

Now, is there a way that MSFT won't know the case was opened or modified if warranty repair work is needed.

What would you all recommend? Buy the extended warranty?

Thanks.

Hi, could someone help with my concern above.

Also, I have not played any game yet since I have not had the chance to rent one, netiher have I gone on live, but I read today live has updates tomm., people are speculating whether the firmware hack will work tomm. or not, does that mean whether it will work period or whether xbox live wont work with the hack already installed.

Since, I have not connected to live, does that mean I am capable of doing the firmware hack down the line.

Lastly, I would appreciate if someone can recommend if I should buy the extended warranty from my post above.

Quickest reply would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

My advice would be to either switch between drives or firmwares in order to play online and play backups. As for the warranty, there is no way (as far as I know) that they cant tell you have opened it up, so the warranty would be deemed pointless if you open your case.

It just depends on how soon/how bad you want to mod it.

Personally I plan on getting an extended warranty with my 360 and having it magically crap out shortly after the new cooler/quieter chipsets come out next year.

How is it that AMEX doubles your warranty?
