Buy a modchip, get a PSU power unit thing, an xbox case, a new dvd drive and download slayers autoinstaller, Then you can do stuff (Assuming the HD isnt locked)
But by the time youve bought all that stuff (unless youcan borrow the chip, and already have the case and power unit) you may as well buy a used working xbox from eBay...

You have 3 options. Chip it and use a bios that skips the dvd drive check. tsop it and use a bios that skips the dvd drive check. Get a dvd drive pcb and plug it in and let it sit inside the case.

Depending on how much you want to spend you could just get a chip and a bigger hard drive and backup all the games onto the hard drive and screw the dvd.

You're going to have to chip it unless you feel like using an EEProm reader to dump the contents of the EEProm to lock the new HD you are going to have to buy. Error 9 means your HD is fucked.

With a TSOP the BIOS you flashed to it is a mod chip BIOS so no you don need a mod chip. the only thing is once you have flashed the TSOP just rebuild the HD with Xboxhdm and retail HD files and go from there.

Im still rather new so i have yet to figure out flashing bios and tsop but if you need a dvd to do it then do one of your friends have a xbox becuase they are just plug and play as far as i know you can just borrow it and use it for what you need then give it back. unsure.gif

I mean you can borrow the dvd from another xbox.

as i told you i still have the pcb from the dvd drive....so i'd like to ask if it is possible to bypass the check by connecting the 12pin cable from the pcb of the dvd drive and as a normal drive i could put my pc's dvd rom.....?

Yes, using the PCB will get you past the DVD ROM check. But you still have to replace the HD, and the only way to do that without buying a chip is with a copy of the EEProm.
