OK, I've successfully flashed three 47DH/J Hitachi's and one 46DH. They all boot backups burned on a Sony/LiteOn burner, but give me a "Unrecognizable disc" error with NEC backups.

Then I flashed one more 46DH, but this drive won't boot any backup. The strange thing is both Sony and NEC backups behave the same way, the drive spins up and eventually I get the "Tray open" message. The reset trick doesn't work. The drive still boots originals.

My first thought was that the drive may need a pot adjustment. So I tried a DVD9 movie burned from the same batch (Verbatim) as the backups, but it played fine.

Anyone else out there with the same problem ?

OEM have you tried making your own ISO with wxripper and ss merger?I've found that greater than 70% of scene releases without ss patch are bad.

damn newby...I'm having problems with my 46dh as well though they're not the same error. I'm also using a sony/liteon drive. I can't seem to get any working burns. I take that back, using the same method for four disks I've got two working backups and many more coasters.
