Well once the BIOS is in the TSOP it's the exact same thing. It's just getting the BIOS in that is different. With the OpenXbox you just hook it up to comp with printer cable, and with TSOP you enable writting to the TSOP and flash with a program that runs on the Xbox.

But remeber you need a modchip to load the unsigned XBE that has the flashing program that flashes the TSOP.

the amount of functionality depends on what bios he puts on there, and whether or not he can perform the flash without messing up your xbox.

The only future risk is that you may want to change it later - in order to flash the tsop there are a couple of jumpers that need to be soldered across - if your friend leaves them soldered it's possible someone will release hostile code that would screw your box - and if they're not soldered the box would have to be opened again to flash ( they could be wired and switches installed, but it's extra hassle)... I de-soldered mine because I dont like having the bios writeable, and I didn't install switches because I didn't like the idea of having wires that could come loose later inside my box... just a preference thing...

Just do a homebrew. A little more of a hassle, mind you, but you won't be messing with the onboard bios.

Plus, a dual bios can be flashed on the modchip.

Just a thought.
