Currently my set-up is

Closed Tray --> UnleashX
Open Tray --> MS Retail

Now how does the tri boot work? i tested it with live dash (my box is already banned but i did it just as a test) and when i left my tray open it booted to live dash but then i dunno how to boot to ms dash on dual and not tri.

Is there like a special way to turn it on for dual boot and another way for tri-boot?

no dual and tri boot work the same. Except with tri boots the tray closes automatically. Optionally before it closes you have time to put in a habibi signed disc which will load instead of the dash.

So tri boot is like

Closed --> Hacked
Open --> MS Dash (if selected)
Open with disc --> boot hibbi signed default.xbe on disc?

some history, in the old days there used to be a tray select app that would boot two different
xbe's one for open the other for closed but if it could not find the files or not signed corectly your xbox would crash (user playing with setup) tri-boot was failsafe, it would close the tray and if there was boot disk it would boot it and save you a lot of work to fix your xbox.
now that NKpatcher incorporates tray state booting it is not usually used/needed but it would be a easy
way to get to the real C and EEPROM by using a dash boot disk and it also closes the tray automatically
there is a option in NKpatcher to close the tray automatically without tri-boot that is a little faster booting
