Well, I finally am getting around to picking one up. I am also going to be use the VGA cable with it, with my widescreen monitor. What else should I get or what should I be aware of? I mean I know about the possiblity of the console being bad and I just can send it to MS. What should I look for and such?

Xbox live 12 month prepaid card.

A online shooter like:
Call of duty 2
Ghost recon: Advanced Warfighter
Battlefield 2

And a game of the gerne you like and your all set.

I think he already has a live account so he doesn't need to spend money on an additional subsription.

In my opinion, if you haven't played any games yet, then don't buy any!
There are PLENTY of demos on Live Marketplace. And with games at 50-60 bucks a piece, you should play them to see if you like them or not before dropping so much money on them.
So, if anything, I wouldn;t buy any games when you get the console. Then go home and download a few demos, play them, and go the next day to the store to buy one or two. It could end up saving you a lot of money... I wish I had done that.

just grab a starter kit. you get the $50 prepaid 12 month card and a headset which equals the price of $70. then you get $20 off any game and 200 marketplace points and bankshots billiards. you might not need the headset now, but if your headset are like the ones i got, the end of the jack will fall out and you wont beable to talk to anyone...

I noticed they have a variety of games in the starter kits, not a lot, but atleast 3...they tell you which ones on the cover so get the one you want.

Only way I think as of now is to look once you've opened the box.
But returning a 360 because you didn't get the drive you wanted is REALLY low...
