USA June Sales: Xbox360 277k, below the PS2 with 312k units
Posted by XanTium | July 14 15:39 EST

From gamasutra.com:

According to a Reuters report citing research firm NPD, overall U.S. video games sales rose by 25 percent in June to a total worth of $844.5 million - led by the new DS Lite portable console and sales of THQ's movie license Cars.

Figures from Nintendo claim that combined sales of both Nintendo DS hardware iterations amounted to just under 600,000 in June. PSP sales for the month were put at 221,000.
NPD has also revealed a figure of 277,000 unit sales for the Xbox 360 - above previous estimates, but still below the PlayStation 2 total of 312,000 units. Xbox sales were put at 24,000 with no figures available for the GameCube.

While we're talking numbers... here are the sales in Japan from July 3 to July 7:
* Xbox360: 1,610
* PS2: 23,332
* Gamecube: 934
* Xbox: 13

Hah! That's too funny that Xbox 360 + Xbox can't match the PS2. However, this does kind of make me wonder.. how? But whatever, still funny. With all the talk and crap with the X360 (oh wait, they're getting bad rep from that too, right?), I figured there would be more than the PS2...

Everybody must be worried that their house is going to catch on fire with an X360. I've already told my roommates no X360s, otherwise they're paying for housing insurance. rolleyes.gif

Well, it's just a matter of using the grey matter to figure out that it's Obvious that the PS2 will outsell the x360 and will outsell the PS3 for a loooooooooong time after it's release.

Just imagine you're one of the mainstream video game consumers that does not own any console.

You wanna play movies/sports/kid's animations games.

You can pay US$175 for a PS2 and a game like Cars or X-Men or you can pay US$500 for the same crap on x360.

What about an Xbox? Good luck finding one. And when you find, if you're that lucky it's the forza combo for US$180, so your package comes out like $220XUS$175 for the same crap on PS2.

Now do not desapoint us saying that you really think that somebody went to the store with US$500+ did not intend to buy garbage pop games like cars, xmen, sponge bob and wrestling crap but really looking for new and state of the art games, then looked at PS2 options and x360 options and decided for the PS2. That simply would never happen.

Does anybody remember how PS1 used to outsell PS2 for almost a year after PS2's launch? I rest my case.

I know people like to put a negative spin on it. But you can also realize that the 360 is selling almost as well as one of the most successful consoles ever even though it costs 3x as much. Sales are also up from the previous month.

Man people are dumb.

However, it helps that the PS2 is $129. And it also helps that it's probable that at least 50% of those PS2 sales are to replace ones that have shit the bed.

23,332 PS2's sold in 4 days? Who the hell is buying all of these? The Sony fans must really like the name. It's seems like they have a PS2 in every room in their house biggrin.gif LOL

One PS2 is enough for me and it sits in my closet mostly collecting dust until i get the itch to play Socom 3 tongue.gif

My Xbox 360 and Oblivion get the most attention in my house now.

a lot of it, in my opinion, is that the 360 does have the bad rep from the media that it will overheat and breakdown. i have had at least 50 different people tell me that, and when i tell them its isnt true and mine has worked great for months they are surprised.
plus a lot of people have a PS2 and just figure they will get a PS3, until i tell them how much it will cost, they have no idea what to do, the news tells them the 360 is no good and they find out the PS3 is an overpriced piece of shit so they dont do anything.

If PS2 is outselling the 360, imagine what PS2 will do to PS3 wich is way more expensive than the Xbox 360 !

I cant believe those PS2 figures! All of my mates are console junkies and have one ps2, one xbox and even now an xbox 360. Half of them have had at least 2 new ps2's since the launch. First ps2 was an early revision, at 400. since then until this day, 3 new ones including that first one.

None have had a second xbox because if something went wrong they were able to get the replacement part. Also those slim ps2's are just a pile of crap arent they?!

so based on that, in a way i do believe the figures. plus it helps that the PS2 costs peanuts and that games are pretty cheap and are still coming out for it though. Gotta say though graphics for new games are mediocre compared to the xbox (not x360! xbox!). Look at the awful graphics in gta san andreas! cant handle any AA or AF to smooth out anything. xbox looks much better (no match for a newer pc though).

i think these statistics should be based on one console per household (or one console per person). i think these statistics are biased for that reason. i dont even think the ps2 looks good anymore! it did, but not anymore. everyone runs ps2's upright and that causes more problems than anything else.

My thoughts exactly!

Quick math: Where are consumers putting their money?

312,000 X $129.00 = $40,248,000.00

277,000 X $350.00 (mid between core and premium) = $96,950,000.00

You have to look past the numbers to see what is really driving this scenario.

I think 360 is holding it's own right now! biggrin.gif
