Is the factory reset code of any use to the crowd. I managed to get the code out of a MS support desk guy, rather than send my box in (parental code on a 2nd user box that I didn't set).

I was warned this would loose all information on the box back to the factory load. I disconnected my HDD before entering the sequence and it seems to have worked.

Now this seems to have removed not only the parental code and all system setting, but also seemingly any "updates" that had been loaded. I will have to check, but when I put in a game I am sure I had played before it wanted to install the update again.

If this is the case, then there must be a backup of the bios firmware and a flashed copy? I might be stating the obvious/already known here, but if it helps anybody on one of their investigations then great.

I assume the code is ok to post in this forum?

Can a mod advise, as the last thing I want is a "no----we can't have that listed here--its circumventing a MS lockout or some such.

PM me or reply to this thread.

Thanks in advance.

If by orig.bin you mean your DVD firmware, no, since this reset is for system settings and bios/dash updates.

If the code is merely info on a hard reset that MS gives out freely then you can post it.
Moving to general as this is not technical hacking by a long shot

Enter the unlock code in system info screen found on the system blade

ltrig rtrig x y lbump rbump x x left left

console then performs an immediate soft reset.

I am not resonsible for any of you loosing settings, screwing your box etc if you use this.

Interesting to see if it wipes the firmware updates. Then again you did say that it offered the update when you load a game so that would suggest it's a game update.

I think it must simply be a reset of all the dash settings.

I'll check it out later.
