try checking around the tutorials section for more information regarding softmods...most of them are about the same

imo NONE

if you dont have the appropriate materials, you can get a chip for $20 i/c shipping

the games are from $2-$20 and the hardware (AR) is $30
and messing up a HDD is no easy task to fix unless u have the eeprom and backup of C and E

with a chip, its just a few points with a soldering iron (NOT AS HARD AS IT SEEMS) and you are on your way
and when you upgrade ur hdd u dont even need the eeprom, just make it using XbHDM and poof, there ya go happy.gif

chips are so00oo cool ph34r.gif

for a softmod, get krayziesNDURE1.1. from the usual places
this is a softmod installer and also you can create a rescue disc and installer disc. very simple and once you get it on the hdd of the xbox and run the exploit game, it tells you everything.
obviosly a chip is the most noob proof way of owning a modded box but softmods are so simple.

Krayzies NDURE installer 1.1 is the best out there now. SID is OK but has some issues and you will not get support for here.

i've done both and it's really up to you. if you don't plan on upgrading your harddrive, softmods and modchips are pretty much the same to me. if you can get the game (even rent it) and the gamesave exploit on a memory card, you don't even have to open your xbox. if you're worried about cost though, in the end it's about the same if you buy everything softmod is the game and action replay or usb stick etc while the modchip is the chip, soldering iron or solderless adapter and torx screwdrivers if you have none.

if you want a softmod though, Krazyie's NDURE is the best and i have that on one of my machines.
