will they just be brighter? or will they burn out?

for instance, i couldnt find a 9v battery to test out a string of leds i had wired up, so, i used 2 c batteries connected to eachother instead, seemed to work fine. i dont know wat kinda of leds are in the top of my case, or the type of resistors, and i want to wire them up to the psu (so they get power and work biggrin.gif ) but i duno if im gunna blow them out using too much voltage, becuz im pretty sure theres supposed to be another resistor on the power wire

Lol I've never had them pop and smell like crap. Usually they just get bright for a second then get dimmer and die eventually, so don't give them too much juice.

Best thing to do is wire up a 15 ohms resistor for those 17 LEDs. biggrin.gif
That will preserve life.

I seem to remember SickDimension saying that you can only run a few off there because there isn't enough current.

running off 3.3 will only get you so far.. read the max output for that on the psu, only a certain amount of leds could be run off there
as for too much power, 9volt battery compared to 2 C batteries. a C battery is 1.5 volts, wiring 2 C batteries in series totals to a whooping 3 volts. Not much compared to a 9v battery. two C's in a parrallel increases capacity so its still 1.5 volts, even less....
what you did was underpower them most likely

True dat. I was thinking the same thing. As for the 5v burning them out. Not very likely but I would be safe and spend the $0.30 cents it cost and get at least a 10 OHMS resister. Shit you could even try to get technical and just put some home made resistance in there. When working on cars you find there is a lot more resistance than you want sometimes by thin wires and corrosion. dry.gif

Something like Surface Effect Display. Right now they aren't pursuing them as illumination or indicatiors (if possible), but for full displays.

^i wasnt attempting to run them from battery though...just, try to see if it worked. so, everything else is irrelevant

..so where can i get a 15 ohm resistor? i dont think i have anything in my bookmarks for that

try ebay dude, the guys who sell leds usually have a bunch of different rated resistors.
