Sleazy Circuit City Ripping Off Xbox 360 Customers
Posted by XanTium | September 1 12:27 EST

From kotaku.com:

How bad does Circuit City want your money? So much so that the retailer is willing to "instal" backward compatibility on your Xbox 360. Reader Brad snapped a photo of this sign at Circuit City in Newport Beach, California, which reads:

Sleazy Circuit City
Want to play your original xbox games on your new Xbox 360?
Backward compatibility on the Xbox 360 is done through software*
Let Circuit City install it for you
For just $28.99
Not sure where to start with this scam to fleece unsuspecting customers, but "Fuck you Circuit City" will do for now. This unscrupulous retailer is trying to convince customers, who sadly do not know better, that this is a service they need--much like extended warranties and aftercare. Backward compatibility isn't even something that Circuit City can really install! I guess they can, but it updates over Xbox Live. And if you don't have an internet connection, Microsoft will happily send you the backward compatibility software, which users can easily install themselves.

circuit city is a terrible place to buy anything. They acually tried to charge me a 30% restocking fee (65$) for exchanging a printer. Scumbags, i will never buy anything from them again. Best Buy is 1000X better

Hmm this is really no different then what game companies are doing with extra game content and what microsoft does with xbox live content. This is what companies do these days, Look at ea removing alternate uniforms that had been in madden for years and making you pay for them purposly removing stuff and making you pay for it is downright dirty.

Best buy does the same thing now (restocking fee) and has been doing it for a while. Thats why I only buy stuff on the net now.

Best customer service period. There is no customer service in walk-in stores anymore sadly.

no no, i think Circuit City is just a scam.. I am pretty sure in the manual for the XBOX360, it will say that you can download an update disc... if it doesn't then whatever, the fucking box (im sure as well) sais Backward Compatible* and then say *A Hard Drive is required and an update as well* or something along those lines.

CC is just being fucking stupid, making people pay for shit on live like new maps and stuff isn't as bad, because it actually TOOK work for them to do, all CC does is burn a disc off the MS website and they're good to go adn make $30 or w/e it is for it.

Kinda like piracy in some ways wink.gif

And that why I HATE Cricuit City.

On another note, it seems like it has been awhile since the last story that didn't have to do with my 360's dvd drive or controller...

This option might be more suited to people who don't have internet access and cannot obtain the latest backward compatibility update and install it.....

Altho I feel Circuit City should make sure people understand that they can do this on their own without spending the 28.99......

Thats like them explaining to you how easy it is to install a stick of memory in your pc which they charge $30.

Everyones got a hustle and this is a good one. Just think how much money theyll make from this, alot more than you think.
