Sorry for the noobish question, I'm prepared for flames.....

I've been out of the scene for a couple of months and I've read news of multiple iterations of firmwares being released...I know that they have been continously improving, but I had a question on bitsetting.

I have an HP 840i/lightscribe dl burner...It doesn't support bitsetting according to DVDInfoPro, does a Hitachi 46D drive read these discs if I burn this way anyway, without bitsetting? Have the firmwares improved so much along the way that this is possible? Or do I just have to go out and buy a drive that supports bitsetting?
