I was wondering if anyone was messing around with getting Arcade Treasures 2 to run the umk3.sr resource file from PS2's MK: Armageddon? I've gone and stripped the files out, but a base rename only causes a hang, and I can find no reference to a specific fileset in the resource itself.

Anyone interested in this?

Hm, checking the contents typed I notice this:

[mk3.sr]
CODE

    49152   1048576  100       0    0 mk3.rom

25059328   1871640    2   11025   16 MK3-00009.wav
...

etc etc

[umk3.sr]
CODE

        0   1048576  100       0    0 umk3.rom
  1048576     49152  100       0    0 umk3eerom.rom

28870656   2521100    1   11025   16 00006.wav
31393792     31620    1   11025   16 00007.wav
31426560     74120    1   11025   16 00008.wav
31502336   2575840    1   11025   16 00009.wav

...

Now, assuming the files are indexed by name, and not address or something, if one were to name the files as MK3's engine has them referenced, since mk3 and umk3 run on the same hardware, does anyone think it would parse correctly and load? I don't know if anyone's already screwed with this stuff to find that it is addressed as opposed to listed.

Well I tryed renaming just the rom files and it still crashed so maybe you have to use the mat2.sr file also thats in the same folder as umk3.sr

just a idea I dunno if it would enable it to load

well just tested what I just said in my above post and it crashed before I could select the game...

but ne way Im thinking their is alot more to it than this maybe someone will find away if not oh well...

So, I guess that, UMK3 is not part of the Xbox MK: Armageddon?

Looks like people gave up. I finally got my hands on a copy of MAT2 and bought in hopes of finding that the games on the disc were just MAME zips fed through a different emulator. That would have made things quite simple, but noooo...they're .SRs.

Replacing MK3 on the disc would be possible though, it just takes more work. With the original X-Box scene dying down, I don't think anyone would still be interested in doing this, but in the long run it would definitely solve the inability to play an arcade-perfect UMK3 on the X-Box (with sound, that is). I expected MK2 to run a lot more poorly than it does. I played it for hours tonight. Not really any slowdown, just tinny sound effects and glitchy shadows. Not a big deal, the gameplay's perfect. I didn't mess around with MK3 much.

Anyway, I think we should get on this. I'm willing to help, but I don't have the knowhow to edit .xbe files and that is a necessity. I'm pretty sure it requires the XDK, right? If you can edit them without it, let me know...or at least tell me where to get it.
