sup, i was dumb enough to leave my xbox at work. i come back, turn on my xbox, and get this messege "xbox live is updating, please dont turn off the xbox" then "xbox live is not responding, please try again later" then i press okay and it tries to update again, over and over again. I dont have internet access here, and my xbox is softmodded using the 007 game. i cant load my games to try to softmod the xbox and i cant get access into my xbox via ftp. ive been trying to figure out what im suppose to do, if anyone can help me that'd be great.

sounds like you softmoded with a lower MS dash version than 5960.

boot up with the 007 game, and load the softmod gamesave, uninstall the softmod, reboot.

boot up with a newer game that will install 5960 dash files, like Halo2, there are others, but I dont know them.

after new dash files are installed, boot with 007 to reinstall the softmod.

Sounds like you'll need to hotswap and restore the files with XboxHDM.

you need the eeprom. with out the eeprom you need to install a mod chip, or build a eeprom reader and get it that way.

i came up with a theory, tell me if this makes sense.

i think the DVD drive is malfunctioning. last time I had this problem, i simply booted the Xbox with the Mechassault disk in the tray. this time, that's not working. is it possibly because the xbox isn't reading the disk in time before the default.xbe or msdash.xbe or whatever initializes?

if so, can i just swap the dvd drive temporarily with another Xbox dvd drive to initialize mechassault?

That is an incorrect statement Josh.

As what Boddah said, without having to buy a modchip you will have to read up on restoring your stock dashboard via hotswap. Yes, you could upgrade your dash in the process as well. MS Dash 5960 is in the SlaYer'S 2.6 installer package, after extracting with Qwix/Craxtion, it will be located in SYSTEM/ALL/C(all files and folders located there).

Hope this helps any.

Hotswap again, BUT instead put a stock dashboard on it, you more than likely had the xbox unplugged for too long. You will have to hotswap while dvd drive unplugged (err12).
