We all know when creating a slim box, the heat sinks have to go there huge, so I took the clips off and ripped them off and all thats under them is 2 chips, no Idea what they do. In order to create my slim box, I can't have those, and it doesn't look like those chips need any cooling.
1. What are the things under the heatsinks, and why do they need to be cooled?
2. If I just remove the heat sinks and leave them, will it still work?
3. How do you get that black sheilding off from around the heatsinks?

laugh.gif Ok, first off, DON'T, and I mean DON'T with a capital D, turn on your xbox without the heatsinks on. Those "chips" are the friggin gpu/cpu! If you don't cool those, you pretty much got an instant egg cooker in front of you. There are many ways too cool a slim box. The most common I've seen is replacing them with iceperg pro 4's (check newegg.com). I've seen a few other heatsinks used but that seems to be the choice of the slim modder. And to answer your last two questions:

2. For about 5 seconds untill the gpu/cpu fry.
3. Take the mobo out and flip it over. I beleive there are a few tabs you push in on the bottom side that let the whole thing pop off if I remember correctly.
