Pc To Xbox Link Issue

hiya all
ive got my xbox linked 2 my pc via a network card and my modem via usb
my problem is that as soon as i connect my xbox 2 my pc it de-activates my internet connection
is there anyway around this????
my pc is on win xp

The USB port on the modem may take precedence over the ethernet port.

Could the USB modem/port and the Ethernet card be sharing an IRQ?

how do i check the irq
has any1 else got the same set up as me
is there anyway i can still use the net and hav my xbox connected 2 my pc?

the usb modem is a DSL/Cable modem right? I don't think you can be connected to 2 different networks at the same time without some type of thrid party app like WinGate, I dont know if that software can that though. The easiest thing to do would be to get a ethernet modem and use a router.
