So I’ve flashed my ms28 Samsung drive a while back. Everything went well, except when I stuck the 008 disk in there and started the PC, the PC wouldn’t start. It kept crashing. I found a post that gave a link to the latest VIA driver, and everything worked fine... I could back up previously purchased games.

Now it's a couple months later and I have Vista installed. I'm having the same problem. Put the 008 disk in, turn on the xbox... wait... turn on the PC it boots to the OS loading prompt but will go no further.

I've installed what I think are the latest VIA drivers v540a. Could it be anything else?

what do you mean by it will go no further?? do you happen to get this error?

"invalid system disk
Replace the disk, and then press any button"

I turn on the xbox with the 008 disk in, turn on the PC (after waiting a bit), then Vista starts loading, then freezes.

So, when I start my PC in the manner described above, it starts to the point where a progress bar appears, then goes no further.

When I say "goes no further" I mean... the start goes normally, a screen appears with a progress bar (this does this every time Vista starts - I forget what it says above this progress bar - something like "welcome to Vista), and it gets stuck on this progress bar. The computer freezes. There's no error. Simply a progress bar... or maybe the progress bar disappears. I can't remember.

It does not show an error message.

Does this make any sense?

I do this ....

1. turn on 360

2. turn on pc

3. as soon as pc is turned on and has detected the drive is attached
put enable 0800 disc in 360

4. as soon as windows starts loading eject enable 0800 disc.

5. windows boots

6. use xbox backup creator.

It seems if you use the enable 0800 disc before you turn on the PC
then when the pc turns on and starts looking for the drive it somehow
resets / re-initialises the drive status, thus needing the enable 0800 disc to be
inserted again.

Vista or XP, currently 5.4 via drivers are causing much problems to do backup.

try going back to 5.2.

Can you not just perform a failed flash method rather than messing about with a 0800 disk? - I did with my MS25 running 4.2a before I put 5.2a on...

Do you know where I can get the 5.2 driver?

As I've stated in many topics before, try using Enable 0800.iso on a DL disc, instead of Single Layer. The ms28 seems to like that a lot more, as that seems to be solving a lot of problems.

It's on a DL disk, and Niteman1969's solution worked.

Now I can't get it to burn... I'll try again in the morning.

I'm getting a Blue Screen of death whenever I try to burn it with Xbox Backup Creator dry.gif

And for now, I'm of DL discs, so I can't try IMGBurn yet. I seriously hope my burner isn't focked.
