Xbox 360 gets keyboard controller
New attachment snaps onto system's standard pad for quick and easy instant message typing.

While Microsoft's Xbox 360 Spring Update will integrate Windows Live Messenger into the system's dashboard for cross-platform chatting, the machine's text-window interface for standard control pads makes lengthy conversations a chore.

To ease the task of typing in messages without the aid of a full-sized keyboard, Microsoft today announced a new text input device for the Xbox 360 controller. The attachment snaps onto the bottom of the controller through the headset jack and features a QWERTY-style key layout with 47 keys.

The keyboard attachment has not been priced or even named yet, but it is expected to see release this summer.

Looks pretty awesome but i hope it doesn't effect the feel of the controller.

As long as there is no drag in added weight, I kinda like it. It looks like a Sidekick. tongue.gif

It's not going to make texting while playing a game much more easier. I don't need my 360 to be a PC replacement, I just need it to play my games. I wish they'd stop trying to bog it down with all this crap. rolleyes.gif

That's cool, whether it's real or not. smile.gif

If it is indeed real, I might get one depending on the price.

I say why not, as long as it works and is playable while attached. Makes sense with the MSN integration in spring update. Who cares if its photoshopped, you have to make a model before you make a product get over it. Ill get it if it is considerably cheaper then a wireless keyboard

For the record, the link in his post goes to the Gamespot front page, instead of to an article. It's a pretty obvious Photoshop, but looks somewhat convincing...

That'd screw with my play style a bit... my hands wrap almost all the way around the "legs" of the controller, and a keyboard there would just get in the way. I can't see it not adding extra weight, as well.

Looks like Gamespot removed the article that's why the source link doesn't work.

Its funny that they said "Microsoft today announced a new text input device for the Xbox 360 controller", but have now pulled the article.

Maybe it's a fake, maybe it's not.
