Few days ago, I left the XBox 360 on overnight while it was running an HD-DVD movie on the menu screen. When I woke the next morning, I had red ring of lights on the XBox 360. I reset the 360 and the XBox 360 seems to be running just fine, but now HD-DVD drive doesn't work. The 360 doesn't even recognize it.

The HD-DVD drive will power up (lighted eject button) when I manually open or close the tray, but as soon as the tray is done moving around, the lighted eject button turns off again. I have checked my connections, unplugged it for a few days, even tried reinstalling the software that came with the drive, but the XBox 360 just won't recognize that the drive is there.

Anyone know of this? I've been searching the internet and have found nothing like this. Please help. I'll be rather ticked off if this thing is already broken. $200 to play about 10 HD movies is a tad ridiculous.

Try and return it to the store if the return period hasn't run out. Otherwise, call M$ and try to get a warranty replacement.

Bought it at EB Games, the week of its launch. Way out of return period for them. It appears to have 3-mo warranty and launch was... 5 months ago? I'll call 'em tomorrow and see what happens. Thanks.

No dice, but thanks. Looks like MS wants $60 to fix it. Decided to sell the 360 and everything, after being an XBox fan for years and years. Already sold 80% of the games and sold the 360. Just gotta repair the drive then I'll sell that. MS should have a better warranty than 3 months on a $200 piece of hardware. Too bad they call it an "accessory."
