Does anybody sell longer power leads for the dvdrom?

Im thinking of making my dvd rom external, I have a longer sata lead I just need the power lead.

If I cant get a longer power lead will there be a problem if I extend the power wires myself?
cut, solder extra length on, heatshrink, to all of the wires?

SSCHevy has got me thinking with his raised dvdrom, half way down the page...

You could do some awsome cooling to the GPU with the dvdrom external.

My xbox sits in the same place all the time anyway so it wont bother me much being external.

Anybody done this yet?
Im sure you could make a neat job of it.

thats a stupid mod imo..
just take the bottom of the dvdrom out.. when a dvdrom is spinning its blowing a fair bit of cold air around the inside of the case..... his mod is ugly, and proly doesnt work any better

Thought about this myself - you could easily use the HD-DVD Rom case (I was going to reverse them and use the HD-DVD in the 360 and have the noisy DVD-Rom in a cupboard...).

If you do do the extension, either do one wire at a time - or make a detailed note of what wire goes where - they are all black and not pin to pin connections ... wink.gif

The cable type doesn't make a difference... There is no 'SATA' and 'SATAII' cables. They're just SATA cables.

So when the disc is not spinning it just heats up all the insides of the dvdrom and wrecks the lens, thats just stupid imo.
Thanks, but no Thanks uhh.gif
