I have had my Xbox modded since the chips first came into the scene, and still have one of the first flashes available on a homebrew (29 wire I think) mod. I want to get a newer BIOS, but think my chip (believe it has M27C200 written on it) is not flashable and I have no way to flash it if it is other than with a old motherboard I have laying around. I am looking for a replacement chip, preferably one that is flashable for later updates. Please PM me or email me at dee_ss@fastmail.ca . Thanks is advance.

It probably isn't flashable. The "C" in the part # means it is an EPROM(needs UV to erase first) or OTP(one time programmable).

Yeah, I don't think it is. I just need a chip to put in its place, as it is just socketed in, so it will be an easy exchange. Please, anyone who can help me out, PM or email me.

Are you in the US? Is your chip the PLCC32-type(pins on all 4 sides) or DIP(pins on 2 sides only)?

I have PLCC32 flash chips but they are 512k (2 bioses) and you may have to change a couple wires around for it to work.

The chips are AM29F040B-120(nS) (AMD-brand).

29Cxxx may or may not be re-programmable.

Perhaps if you provided the entire chip number it would help.

If it starts with an AT, like AT29C020/AT29C040/ETC. it is good.
If it starts with a W, like W29C020/W29C040/ETC. it is also good.
