break news
spring update killing xbox 360s
In some worrying news for Xbox 360 owners, there are numerous stories being posted on the Official xbox.com forum concerning the recent spring update killing 360's. Quite a few of the forum posters are also claiming that Microsoft are ignoring the complaints. Apparently after updating, 360 owners are reporting that the machine suddenly switches off. Are any of you 360 owners suffering any problems?

I haven't seen any posts about that here, which is kind of ironic because it means that stock 360's are being killed, while modified 360's are not even though the update is rumored to have disk jitter checks.

Edit: I haven't actually updated yet, I'm going to right now. I'll tell you guys how it works out in a few.

Edit 2: Everything is working fine, I did however notice that it took longer to get into the dashboard than usual.

problems have just started for me... console hangs at startup (when displaying 360 logo)/when i'm about to start playing a game. got a normal console hang at first, then a hang with "beeps", then the red lights. power cycle made it go away and seems ok now but still...

I'm actually getting kind of worried right now, I just joined a Gears of War game and everyone's voice started lagging. Pressing B did nothing, despite hearing the noise played when readying and not readying your player.

I'm going to leave my 360 off for a while to cool.

This is not news at all. It is somebody taking wild guesses in the Xbox Forums. It is people with consoles that fail at this particular time in their lifespan blaming the update.
Every update we go through this same old routine of people suffering hardware failure and blame the update .
FALSE rumours then spread like wild fire round the internet

I updated my firmware to 5.3 and then did the update. I noticed that everything ran extremely slowly and that none of my disks were recognized any more.

Then I realised that I'd forgotten to reconnect my SATA cable biggrin.gif

Everything works fine now. This is a prime case of "User error - incomptence"

Agreed, in fact most users that are complaining are probably running modified firmware or out of date warranty and just looking for any old excuse to score a new unit

Most of it is BS! Can someone please change the topic from breaking to news because this sort of news appeared in the spring '06 update lol!

I agree with the last post - updated mine, I've not re-flashed my drive for yonks! tongue.gif

The day someone actually gets a ban is the day I'll worry about it.

Realised I divilged from hardware death to account banning there..... oops.
