Ok. my friend has a pc downstairs that acts as the main "hub" for the network. its the best pc in the house ect, but unfortunately the copy of windows on it appears to be fake. However, i am able to help him out with a service pack 2 disk, which will be half the step.
After installing sp2 on this, would it be possible to download and run media player 11 on a pc upstairs with a genuine windows xp? (note the pc upstairs will not have been updated with sp2)

What do we rekon? or should i just throw caution to the wind and force him to stick sp2 on the pc upstairs, even though its a bit old and runs terribly slow already?
