This is a temporary sticky

The Ban started by MS (Microsoft Starts Banning 360s on LIVE - MS Confirms) is not a technical hacking subject. It is a business decision by MS to stop modified console from going on LIVE based on criterias that may/not be hacking, use/not of backup while on live, modification to hdd files??? all to be confirmed.

It would therefore be better discussed in other forums, but considering its importance and the fact that the hacked firmware is one part of this subject we will allow such discussion in these specific threads:

**All reports on configurations that have been banned/not banned
The site http://www.locallans.com/index.php tracks the banned/not banned consoles and an analysis at http://www.locallans.com/analysis.php .
(also our thread Banned Console Reporting, ALL REPORTS ON BANNED/NOT BANNED HERE)

**Firmware as a source of detection for ban: only discussion about firmware being detected, other theories will go in the next thread
Its Likely That The Firmware Has Nothing To Do With The Bans

--------- GENERAL and theories -----
**All general discussion, news, theories and announcements

----------- Media Stealth --------------
Plse look at Media Stealth: What is needed and How To Verify, (DMI, PFI, Video Partition, Samsung SS) for more infomation in the Backup FAQ Section.

----------- Connectivity Kit -------------
In order not to lose the info and have the same questions asked repeatedly plse keep all discussion about connectivity Kit in Connectivity Kit Questions, All Info/Question/Discussion Here

QUOTE
Do not request: Will I be banned by MS... , Is the UPDATE to game X going to cause problems like my backup will stop playing. All important issues on ban/resulting from an update will at XS front page, in the pinned threads and discussed already (search plse).
  • Start of ban as of may 2007: No point in opening thread on how to avoid it, or on theories and speculations, when more info is available it will be posted. In the mean time read the existing thread where all the known info is already discussed.
Apparently, this first ban sequence by MS targeted the user with following profile:
Thus, if your console was connected to Live while you were using a non-stealth solution then you are at risk.
Have I been caught by MS? we do not know
If I changed to iXtreme after, will I be caught? we do not know
... , we do not know
WE DO NOT KNOW MORE than non-stealth and connected to Live was the likely basis of detection. Again, no point in asking the same old question, or at the very least keep it in Newbie Chat after doing the most research possible.

What will the future be? will MS pursue further the detection of backups? will they start detecting the firmware itself? will they detect spoof drive? will they detect offline are report when you connect? ...
Obviously no way for anyone to answer your questions on that since only MS knows what they have coming for us.

What can I do now if I am not ban? Best solution based on the info currently available (no guarantee in any way) is to use for your Samsung and Hitachi the lastest iXtreme firmware listed in Releases, Tuturial And Guides with properly made backup (offline only) and your original (if online). You can verify your backup is properly made in Media Stealth: What is needed and How To Verify, (DMI, PFI, Video Partition, Samsung SS)

All new threads not respecting these rules will be merged or closed.

From: Did You Get Banned From Xbox Live?, READ HOW TO FIX IT HERE!

Sorry, the title is Misleading, but I wanted to make sure you actually read this.

All Discussion on the bannings go in this topic:
http://forums.xbox-s...howtopic=621114

That includes speculation, theories, discoveries, and general venting of frustrations.

IF YOU CREATE ANY NEW TOPICS ON THE SUBJECT
An Xbox-Scene moderator will close it

IF YOU ADMIT TO USING BACKUPS ON XBOX LIVE
And Xbox-Scene Moderator will issue you a warning and Mute your account

IF YOU ADMIT TO PIRATING GAMES
An Xbox-Scene Moderator WILL BAN YOUR XBOX-SCENE ACCOUNT.
-Making more then 1 backup counts as Piracy
-Making a backup of your "friend's" disc or your "Brother's" disc or any disc in possession of anyone but yourself will be considered piracy.

IF YOU ADMIT TO RETURN FRAUD
If you returned your banned console to Walmart or some game store or otherwise offloaded your console to someone who didn't know it was banned/broken/modified/etc you will not only be banned but will we likely contact law enforcement in your area and report you. Yes, we can get that information, it's not difficult to do and we have done it before.

IF YOU ADMIT TO REPLACING/FAKING THE MICROSOFT CASE STICKER
An Xbox-Scene Moderator will ban your account (this is fraud).

IF YOU MOUTH OFF TO A MODERATOR
An Xbox-Scene Moderator will ban your account

IF YOU CREATE A NEW XS ACCOUNT AFTER BEING BANNED
An Xbox-Scene Moderator will ban you NEW account too.

These aren't new rules... these rules have been around for ages. But since many of you feel you can disrespect these forums just because you were an idiot and took your moded Xbox on Live (we all warned you before you moded it that you shouldn't do that, there's no excuses) we're taking a hard line moderating approach. There is no room for discussion and appropriate retribution will be delivered without question and without prejudice.
BANNINGS FAQ

Q: How do I know if I've been banned?
A:
Run a network connection test, if the connection to Xbox Live Fails then check the error codes. If your Z value is 8015 - 190D then it means you're banned.

Q: If I was banned can I take my Gamertag onto a new Xbox 360?
A:
Yes you can, only your console was banned not the account(s) on it.
Q: If I have been banned, can I plug my harddrive into another Xbox360?
A:
Yes, your Xbox360 has been banned not your account or your storage device.

Q: Is there any way to unban my console?
A:
None is known at this time. We'll likely report on it if a method is ever found.

Q: Will there be a firmware update that will un-ban me?
A:
No, once you've been banned there is nothing you can do to the firmware to un-ban you, as of right now there is no known method at all to un-ban a console.

Q: I never modified my console but I was banned! What do I do!
A:
If you bought it used contact the person or store you bought it from and demand an un-banned console. If you bought it new, contact MS and demand an un-banned console.

Q: I have a modified console but I'm not banned!
A:
Luck you...

Q: I'm not banned but if I use firmware "X" will I be banned?
A:
Yes, most likely. It's unclear the criteria being used to ban people but there is no firmware known to be safe. If you're using hacked firmware and log onto Xbox live you risk being banned; it doesn't matter what firmware you use.

Q: My console has been banned from LIVE. How will I be able to receive dashboard updates?
A:
Typically the dash updates are available for download from Xbox.com Whether they will be allowing future dash updates for banned consoles is yet to be determined. Also when dash updates are downloaded from LIVE, the installer is cached on the harddrive, so simply swapping the hdd from an updated console to a non-updated one, should prompt you to update the dash.
