Reeves: No PAL 80GB PS3 Plans
Posted by XanTium | 11-6-2007 16:27 EST

From next-gen.biz:

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe CEO and president David Reeves has stated that the company has no intentions of releasing the 80GB PS3 in PAL territories "for the foreseeable future".

He also confirmed that the chances of the 20GB machine launching in Europe were extremely slim. "I can confirm that it's highly unlikely that the 20Gb version will be launch in PAL territories", he said.

Not really surprised, if I'm to get one I would probably upgrade it to a 300 GB drive anyway.

It's hardly worthwhile adding an extra 20GB any way.

There are so many reasons why this wouldn't be worth it.

1. content is there really enough content on the Sony network to fill up that kind of space.
2. Its not like you going to be running out of space saving games as the ps3`s games catalog
just isn't big enough for that to happen. Hell the 360`s games catalog wouldn't fill 80gb worth of saves.

3. Ok theres Linux but if you know how to install Linux and use it then your going to beable to swap
the hard drive out.
4. 80GB what would be Sony`s gain. Microsoft and Sony play the mines better than yours marketing,
So would sony really bring out a 20gb upgrade when Microsoft with the elite well from 20gb to 120gb.

All roads round it doesn't make sense for the consumer to buy it and it certainly doesn't make sense for
sony to bring it here. I don't think even parents would be fooled. If the kid goes i want a ps3 for x mas
then they know what a GB is roughly. Mp3 players covered that skill and ipods. As people actively choose
different size ipods everyday. It doesn't mean that have a degree in IT skills to figure out that 60gb and 80gb isnt a massive difference. For the price that i am sure it would cost.

I can understand Sony on this one. I mean, the stores are still packed with 60gb ones. Where would they put them lol.
