I've finally sorted out my wireless networking issues, been a long week!

I recently got myself a Linksys DWL-2000AP+ access point and I've been trying to use it to connect the Xbox to my already existing Netgear DG834G ADSL router/wireless access point.

Initially had my PC connected to the DG834G (ethernet cable) and a laptop also connected to the DG834G through wireless card.

I thought that setting up the DWL-2000AP+ to the Xbox would be simple, but nooooo, not really!

So, if anyone needs any help, here's how I finally got it working:

1) Set the DWL-2000AP+ into default mode (hit the reset button a few times). Disconnect the PC from the DG834G and connect the DWL-2000AP+ directly into the PC.

2) Change the PC's IP settings to the following:
IP Address:
Subnet Mask:
Gateway: (Address of the DWL-2000AP+)
DNS: (Address of the DG834G)

3) Access the DWL-2000AP+ via Firefox/IE at the default IP ( and set the name of the wireless network (SSID) and the channel to match that of the existing wireless network created by the DG834G.

4) Configure the DWL-2000AP+ as wireless client and use the search wireless networks for the existing network (created by the DG834G) Connect to this network.

5) Access the management of the DG834G and allow the new MAC addresses to connect to the wireless port.
(There'll actually be two MAC addresses, one for the DWL-2000AP+ and the other is the PC)

6) Change the DWL-2000AP+'s IP settings to the following:
IP Address:
Subnet Mask:
Gateway: (Address of the DG834G)

7) Enable DHCP on the DWL-2000AP+ starting at

8) Change the settings of the PC to dynamic IP and check that the PC can access the internet and FTP to the laptop. If you can do this, then the DWL-2000AP+ is setup correctly.

9) Setup the Xbox to use dynamic IP.

10) Re-boot the Xbox and connect it to the DWL-2000AP+.

11) Re-connect the PC back to the DG834G and go into the management of the DG834G. Allow the new MAC address trying to connect to the wireless port (yep, this is the address of the Xbox.)

12) Then, from the PC, check that you can access the management of the DWL-2000AP+ and check that you can FTP to the Xbox.

Hopefully, you can follow this, but any questions (or easier ways to do it) would be welcome!

Thank you very much for such an clear explanation.

Did you use "wireless client mode" or "wireless bridge mode" ?

I've tried your configuration with a PC instead of a XBOX and it does not work. I can ping the DWL-200AP+ and I can ping the router without problems but I cannot ping the DNS server.

Thank you for your support.
