someone has set the smart xx chip to automatically boot either with the power or the eject to the microsoft xbox dashboard . What do I need to do to reset the chip so it can boot alternate dashboards?
thanks in advance for any help.

try this,

Power on your Xbox.
After a few seconds the Eject LED turns red, then press the EJECT Button
and you are back in the SmartXX OS.

This works only once.
If you want to boot permant to SmartXX OS, you have to change the "Quick boot mode".
