Toshiba says no to new Xbox 360 HD DVD rumour
Posted by XanTium | October 22 12:53 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From news.yahoo.com:

An Australian website has reported Toshiba as saying Microsoft will release an Xbox 360 with a built-in HD DVD drive by the end of next year.

As with every 'Microsoft to add HD DVD to 360' rumour - currently at about one a month - Microsoft is dismissing the claims. But so is Toshiba.
A spokesperson for Tosh told us: 'It's got nothing to do with us. But we know Microsoft doesn't want to include the HD DVD drive so as not to limit the user's experience.'

Haha like I said in the romour post I call it BS and it seems I was right smile.gif, I can see the HD-DVD drive built in to the Xbox 480 though if the format wins and it's cheaper.

Wait wait wait...

So ADDING an HD-DVD drive LIMITS the user's experience?

The experience of having an extra, external drive, perhaps?

bucko don't you mean the 720?

360 + 360 maybe? idk

how does this "limit the user's experience" though, by including more functionality?

It was either MS or ATI, but from right near the start it was publically stated that HDMI was eventually going to happen.

I still think this will happen, Microsoft or Toshiba are not going to admit the rumor if its coming out next year that would only hurt current xbox 360 sales.

I personally think Microsoft would be pretty dumb not to do this next year, this year a hd-dvd PC drive is around 70 dollars next year this should be around half around $35 dollars. A normal dvd drive is going to cost around 20 dollars so for a extra 15 dollars we get a hd-dvd player. I know these numbers are made up but they are not far off.

2 BIG problems with - "put HD DVD inside X360" besides cost.

- too slow - DVD speed in 2xHD DVD / 2xBlu-ray drives is 8xDVD.
DVD in X360 is 12xDVD (actually 16xDVD with firmware limiter to 12x so it can read DL-DVD at 12x speed)

-too slow access time
DVD ~110ms
2xBlu-ray >350ms (similar to 2xHD DVD)

PS3 with HDD - long loading times.
Can you imagine loading times in Core version without hdd?

Have you thought all the people that have already bought a 360?
