Call of Duty 4 Near Identical on PS3 and Xbox 360
Posted by XanTium | 6-11-2007 23:09 EST

From ps3center.net:

According to many highly credible sources who have already gotten their hands on both PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Call of Duty 4, the news is that they are nearly identical.

Many gamers were worried that Call of Duty 4 would not run as well on the PS3 as on the Xbox 360. A lot of this was due to fears learned from the past with EA Sports games having framerate problems, games such as Madden NFL 2008.
PS3 owners have no fear though as yesterday PCN was able to confirm that Call of Duty 4 will run on 1080p on the PS3.

Considering that game runs in 720p.... and is software scaled (or hardware scaled in X360). dry.gif

They do look the same in those videos, but you do realize that you would be hard pressed to see any differences in resolution in a video that is at a lower resolution than the game, right?

gametrailer's "HD" videos are hardly HD... 720p would fill the entire width of a 19" LCD

not to say that their video's aren't nice and clear (because they are) but they're not even close to 720p, nor are they HD... they're just not the crappy overcompressed sub-SD videos we're used seeing.

I looked up the media info in VLC and it says the Resolution is 1280x720.

Edit: The embedded version is not 720p, but you can download a larger version. That's the one I was looking at.

I see, I didn't realize the downloadable version was different from the embedded version.

as for the difference between the two versions... who really cares as long as they both play without any problems.

I bought the Collector's Edition for the 360 which was somewhat of a disappointment (the CE features not the game)

I have more faith in Infinity Ward than the guys that did COD3...

all I know is that this game is amazing! I don't care what it looks like on the 360, it runs and looks great on the ps3. The special misions like the gunship and sniper ones are a lot of fun and the multiplayer is right-on. The blurring effects for what you are and aren't focusing on are cool too. The best game for ps3 so far IMO.

Played both versions at 720p on a samsung LCD.

Both looked pretty much the same, the detail on the ghille suit looked a tad clearer on the 360 but that may have been to do with the settings on the lcd.

One thing I noticed is that it loaded way quicker on the 360

Also I prefer the 360 controller for fps games, I have never liked the PS controller for fps on any playstation, just my preference.

The likelihood that CoD4 would run in native 1080p on either system is very slim. The 360 more then likely just scales it, while the ps3 probably uses its Horizontal doubling trick to achieve 1080p (960x1080)...Ninja Gaiden Sigma, for example, did this as well.

EDIT:

Come to find out, neither even support 720p. This evidence comes from the individual who busted BUNGIE's Halo 3 resolutions at 640p.

CoD4's resolution for both the 360 and ps3 is 600p (1024x600p 2xAA). Imagine that.

It just seems that no games run on their claimed native resolution anymore.
GT5 Prologue Demo is 960x1080 as well...:'(
