I have read a lot of rumors concerning the 79LF. Some say its flashable without extra hadware, some say its not.

I get it to Mode B and see the drive in windows. Everything acts like with any other drive. But when I try to flash
with maximus toolbox 4.5 it wont do the trick.

Big talk, short question:

Is it "software only" flashable ?

P.S: Thanks for answering the question which might have been asked a few dozen times. But im confused of all the crap talk in several forums.

No, you have to use a passkey key chip for the 79 drive.

Current machines appear to be a mix of Hitachi 0079FL and BenQ.

I think most cores have Hitachi drives.

atm yes 79 is only drive that requires soldering. And from my experience most new core (arcade) systems are coming with 79fl drives.
