Microsoft Shares More on Fall Dashboard Update
Posted by XanTium | November 27 16:02 EST | News Category: Xbox360

From joystiq.com:

Microsoft Japan recently held a small press briefing detailing some of the new features bundled into the Xbox 360 Fall Dashboard Update.

The most significant addition is the reorganization of the "games" blade, which now features the "Game Library" (in place of "Xbox Live Arcade"), in addition to the old "Achievements" and "Played Games" sections.
When opened, the Game Library is nearly identical to the current XBLA menu, with a vertically-scrolling games list and an info box appearing for the highlighted game. New, however, is a horizontal sorting menu, broken down by filters like "All Games," "Arcade," "Demos," and "Recent Downloads."

Additional Fall Update features:
* Top level of "marketplace" has been reorganized and reduced to four categories: "Featured Content," "What's New," "Game Store," and "Video Store" (below top level, categories will be navigated by twist, just like the Game Library)
* "Personal Profile" added to Gamer Profile; text field allowing approx. 500-1000 characters, providing space to publish name, nationality, region, and self introduction. (Further social networking tools to accompany 'Friends of Friends' functionality)
* XBLA demos deleted from "Played Games" and Gamercard lists

"Personal Profile added into Gamer Profile" is a feature I've actually wanted for a while now smile.gif . And removing XBLA demos from played games list is great too. I know tons of people were complaining about that.

that makes sense about the XBLA demos. Although i have to admit im not looking forward to the update. I'm one of those nervous people who doesn't go online for a week or so after an update.

Oh well, i can play offline for a little while.

Meh, I hate that gaming has turned into this social online crap fest. Where are the offline masterpieces that existed on earlier generations. And to top it all of I need to pay for that shit ....

Where are the features that people actually want

I call this the turning point, this is when it all starts to be about the money for MS. This is the end of the rope.

Makes sense to not show demo stuff.

Really couldn't care less about this update though, seems pretty mundane.

Its only an option, you don't have to put your name into your profile if you don't want to.

So XBLA will get it's on tab? sweet.

One of the newly discovered changes will be the ability to reorganize the Game Blade, which will feature the Game Library, instead of Xbox Live Arcade, Achievements, and Played Games sections.

Personal Profile sounds like Facebook, I probably wont do much with that, leave it to my facebook/myspace accounts.

QUOTE
XBLA demos will also be deleted from Played Games and Gamercard listings.

Thats good cause then you can really see who owns what...etc

Exactly, where is a group chat feature so i can talk to 2 friends at once in a private chat. I dont see how this is less important then some lame asz personal profile.

They've had a group chat, I'm pretty sure you can have 4 people in it a once. There is also video chat. Almost everygame has an offline story type mode... BioShock, Gears, Halo, F.E.A.R., etc... anyone? I'm liking the removal of demos, and the profile thing. Can't wait to see what else there is.

so far this update sucks. MS should just rip-off xbmc and give us that instead.

Yes indeed - so far this "update" gives me personally no improvements over the current version and if indeed the video support won't appear this is totally useless for me
