the motor that spins the disc burned out on my hitachi driver, does anyone know if it is possible to replace the motor without buying a new driver? also, are the motors specific to the xbox or can i get a motor out of another hitachi device, for example, an old computer or dvd player. thanx

The motor would have to come from another 360 Hitachi drive, it's possible others use the same type, but without tearing them all apart to compare to one or knowing the exact part numbers it's almost impossible to say.

The Hitachi has 2 problems with the spindle motor, and neither involve it going bad, are you sure this one is?

The motor can get gunked up with dirt and that causes it to not spin properly, feels like it's dragging if ya try to spin it by hand, and taking it apart and cleaning/relubing it will resolve this issue.

Then the MCIC (Motor Controller IC) could be shot, it can go bad from just normal use, most often from the power cable being plugged in upside down and that only takes a second to fry it, and in either case the IC or the logic board would need to be replaced.
