I have downloaded amsn-0.00.tar.gz
But i dont know how to install the application.
Im running Gentoox Home v.2.
On the previous version, all i had to do was to type; Emerge amsn
in the konsole and msn was applied, but it doesnt seem to work anymore with that command..
So i need an answer on how to install apps out of these filetypes.

tarball format is (tar.gz) or .tar

to unpack any kind of tarball archive simply run the following from the command line terminal:

tar zxvf amsn-0.00.tar.gz ; cd amsn-0.00

that will do it, :-)

You can also download the rpm and install that way, or the deb package if running debian.

(Note, the rpm will work with gentoox as well, but you can also just emerge amsn as well)

to unpack any kind of tarball archive simply run the following from the command line terminal:

tar zxvf amsn-0.00.tar.gz ; cd amsn-0.00

that didnt work, i noticed that the file was actually named amsn-0.80... but it didnt work when entering that name either... it said No such file or directory..

And about that RPM... ive download it... when trying to open it, it asked me which program i want to open it with....
i need further instructions on how to use RPM's..

rpm -i theprogram.rpm

else if you got a tarball its usually:

tar -xzvf tarpackage.tar.gz
cd unpackedprogramdirectory
./configure
make
make install

Please note usually a tarball comes with an INSTALL and README file, u will get more instructions in those.
