I've been using XBMC for a while to play movies from my desktop computer over the network and everything has been great. But, if I try and play a movie that is encoded at 720p or higher, the xbox eventually starts to choke because it can't keep up with it. Would I have more luck copying the movie directly to the xbox hard drive or is the xbox just not powerful enough to decode HD video files?

Most HD encodes are too much for the poor X-Box, but you will generally have better luck playing from the HDD.
