I've started working on my project about a week ago. I bought a busted Xbox 360 on eBay for $80 and decided to have at it. Below is a list of all the mods I plan to do along with some photos of my progress so far.

- X-Clamp Replacement (RBJTech's Method): Completed
- Front Fan Header Mod: Completed
- Install CPU Heatsink Fan: Incomplete
- Install Talismoon Fans: Incomplete
- Fan Shroud Mod: Incomplete
- Custom Paint Job: In Progress
- Custom Window Cut: In Progress

I may consider changing the RoL LEDS, but I suck at soldering, and the fan header was hard enough.

Pictures:

My custom window cut progress. My dremel's battery runs low quickly.

The color choice.

IPB Image

Missing a sand job and the clear coat. Just a shot for color comparison.

IPB Image

Shot of the freshly painted vents.

IPB Image

A shot of what the faceplate will look like when finished.

I'm missing a clearcoat on all my painted pieces. Will update as I complete more.

Questions? Comments? Gripes?

how did you go about painting the power button without getting the clear plastic in the center painted?

for the power button you can only paint it if you have after market faceplate.
if you have the stock one (which came with the xbox) you cant paint it without going over the center.

Knock off face plates suck really badly. They fall apart nad if you take them apart it is a pain in the ass to get them back together

Well the Xbox I bought off of eBay came with an after market case / faceplate that I sanded. It would of been nice to have the original case to work with, but I think this case will do. Do the XCM cases have any identifying marks on them?

I finished the paint job today. Looks great. I also finished the window cut. It's not perfect, but it fine by my standards.

IPB Image

1st ghost coat of paint.

IPB Image

Sanded down with 1500 grit for the next coat. A total of 5 coats.

IPB Image

Close up of the window cut.

The final paint job. Like?

More to come soon. Check back tomorrow!

Ah, she be done now! I'm just missing my plexiglass, but that can wait. I was so happy to see it finally together that I booted up Mass Effect. I played for about 10 minutes and then it went checkerboard on my ass. I'm going to have to tweak it some. Anyways....PICS!

IPB Image

My heatsink cover. A painted playing card.

IPB Image

The painted XCM DVD cover. I wasn't brave enough to cut my own window.

IPB Image

Glued together faceplate. That USB door is a bitch to put back on.

All glowy!

Thanks for looking! I might update it once I put in the plexi.

The money shots!

Right now the motherboard is only sitting on 3 steel washers, with none between the heatsinks / board. I went to Home Depot on my lunch break to pick up some nylon washers and longer bolts for the GPU (I had 12mm, too short for more washers). I think the board is warping too much, so I'm going to try 4 under and 1 on top setup. Wish me luck! I'll keep you guys updated.

Edit: I may consider selling this once I finish. I haven't fully decided if I want to keep it or not. I have an extra HD lying around, I might paint that up as well.
