Okay here's the scoop.

FoF is basically a similar setup to GH (Guitar Hero). It runs on Windows and Linux, is open-source, and has many mods available (Themes, Game-play etc...) and is supported by a large community. You can play with a keyboard, a 360 guitar, or a controller if you wish. You can make custom tracks with a built-in track editor or download them via the web. It really is an all around awesome experience. So my question is... Why hasn't anybody ported this to XBox Linux? I mean c'mon, look at everything else the community has accomplished, how could this be overlooked? It would practically be like having GH on your XBox with the right mods, definitely worth the trouble in my opinion, and I'm sure many more would agree. So, if anyone out there has been itchin' for a new project, here it is, The FoF XBox Project. If you think you got the skills and feel up for the challenge, go ahead, take a shot at it, 1st Place=Glory (LOL). I will actively post new links as new resources become available.

Please forget about porting this to Linux. A lot of us don't use Linux on our boxes and would love to launch it as a stand-alone application through, say, XBMC.

Since this is open-source, I think it's VERY possible. However, it looks like FoF calls for at LEAST 128 mb of RAM. I'm sure anyone who ports this will be able to work around this, and I hope it doesn't end up being a 128mb Xbox-only port.

This is exciting, though. I always wondered when some guitar-hero clone would hit the original box. It's about damn time.

There is a GH clone for Wii/PC/PS2 that could easily be ported to the Xbox: Guitarfun.

I think the only reason it hasn't been yet is because there's no guitar made for the original X-Box. I wonder if those adapters that enabled you to use PS2 controllers on X-Box would work with the PS2 guitar controllers. Of course, finding one these days would probably be an all day Google affair. I'll bet it'd be easier to mod one yourself.

PS2-->Xbox Adapter

Took about 30 seconds to find.

I looked into the source of GuitarFun. Looks feasible. So long as it has star power and all the regular goodies it'd work just fine. Pretty much everything is sprite-based using existing APIs.

The more I look at the GuitarFun code the more it seems possible. It uses SDL for most of the stuff, so it's pretty likely that it could be ported. Too bad I don't have a dev box. I'd do it.

If this project got off the ground, i personally hope it does, then using adapters or or splicing / resoldering an existing guitar peripheral would be a must. Second hand Xbox's at my local "Game" are only 25, was thinking of a debug machine myself for porting, however i have no experience at porting although im very sharp i think it will take months just to get familiar with the software itself.

How much would it actually take to do this? Where does one get a dev box? (or can it be made using a normal xbox)

I would make an attempt at this if i knew the steps involved...(im a computer science student who will be more then bored with time to attempt such deeds.) And I have knowledge of frets on fire and its formats(guitarfun) is bassed on fof. but its in C. the xbox runs C

A lot. It would be much easier to port GuitarFun, which is already on other systems, is open source as well, and is written in C
