I bought a rrod xbox off of the bay repaired the rrod no problems but games would not load originals. So i dumped the firmware and found that it had already been flashed and retrieved the dvd key. I thought the laser might be faulty so i tried the pot tweak to no avail. I didn't have a spare laser so i took a working xbox dvd drive same make and model (samsung ms25) and flashed it with the firmware from the suspect dvd. This did not work either and i just get the" to play this disc blah blah" message. Is it possible the dvd key is wrong for the motherboard. The other strange thing is the warranty seal was intact (reason i bought it) but it had been flashed.

It is the wrong key. Unless you can get the proper key from the person you got it from then you are screwed. this is why I never suggest anyone ever buy a 360 from anyone on ebay ever.

See if it plays a movie dvd even if the key is wrong it'll still play. if it doesn't maybe the drive is shot

I know you tried another drive but it may help confirm if the key is wrong

Any drive will play a movie DVD even if its the wrong key. But without the proper drive key it will never load a game no matter what.
