1. If I use original Xbox 360 game discs on a modded firmware drive, will I get banned if I go online?

2. I have read some stuff about 8x and 12x Iextreme burning out your laser faster than stock firmware, is this correct?

3. I have heard that the stock firmware changes disc read speeds depending on the needs of the game, and that the 8x and 12x lock the drive at those speeds, so would that mean that if I flashed with 12x it would be even louder than a normal drive?

1. No guarantees... this the recommended method for connecting to live... iXtreme should behave exactly as stock with original game.

2. I've never heard this, but possibly, more to do with burned disks needing more power for the Laser...

3. These are the max speeds, as sometimes reducing the top speed makes the drive more compatible with backups...

So 12x modded firmware with original xbox 360 game in it, would be exactly like the original drive.

What about the load times of 8x? Is it worth me opening my Xbox and possibly bricking my drive just for quieter drive speeds?

I believe it isnt possible to brick a BenQ drive!

My BenQ drive went Flashing when i pushed the power button!
4 seconds later my Xbox went out and my drive was bricked.. atleast that is what i thougt.

After redoing the whole process it flashed completely and without errors!

It is possible to brick one, but corrupt firmware is easily sorted as you erase then flash a BenQ drive.

Just in the interests of curiousity, what DOES get banned from live, the console or the gamertag or both?

And how do MS find out? Is the DVD constantly broadcasting its firmware version everytime you go on live with it?
