Is there any program I can use on my Xbox to unlock my hard drive without use of a PC. The hard drive is locked to a system which no longer works so I can't unlock it on that. If I can do this on Config Magic how would I go about doing so, because when I try hotswapping in Config Magic it says it needs restarted and when I do it won't boot because the HDD is locked to another system.
Thanks!

There's an option in configmagic or evox to unlock it.

How about with a PC? How would you unlock it?

If you MUST use another X-Box to do this, there's currently only one way to go about it.

Get a dump of the original console's EEPROM. Good for you if you already have it, if not you'll need to build an EEPROM reader.

If you don't already have the EEPROM backed up and you've lost access to the original console, then a PC is your only hope.

So can you get that EEPROM?

What version was the original console?

What version is the console you wish to use to unlock the drive?

Well, the working console I have right now is a 1.0 but I can probably use my friends 1.6 too.
I actually have 2 HDDs needing unlocking, one a 1.1 and the other a 1.6 neither of which I have eeproms for.
I no longer have the mobo for the 1.1 (Run088 has it now) but I still have the 1.6 mobo and lucky for me I built an EEPROM reader a while back for no reason(I figured I'd need it some time)

There's a difficult way, the linux based tool like chimp26 or xdsl can do it but you'll need to be good at Linux as it's all command-line. Another problem is that for the password option, the linux tool accepts only a hexadecimal password.

I just thought of another way , your 1.0 is softmod? Assuming the locked drive was locked by configmagic/evox. Your configmagic needs to be on dvd. You need an external power source for the locked drive. You need an unleashX boot disc. Try this:
1. Power the locked drive with external power.
2. Connect the hdd ide cable to the locked drive and let it boot to an error 6.
3. Disconnect hdd ide cable.
4. Power off xbox.
5. Connect back hdd ide to original drive and let the boot disc with configmagic on it boot.
6. Use the file manager in the boot disc to navigate to D:
7. hotswap hdd ide cable to locked drive.
8. launch d:\default.xbe
9. use file manager to launch configmagic.

Caveat: This will only work if the locked drive was locked by configmagic and the master password was set to TEAMASSEMBLY. Step 9 was only tested on xbox ver 1.6

The technique came from the link in my sig on the boot disc to upgrade softmod xbox drive.

Actually the 1.0 is a hardmod. The hard drives are the stock, 8 and 10gb ones that came with the system, so they where never locked with config magic.
