Hello, I recently purchased a xbox360, 60gb version (8/15/08). I have previous skills in hardware modding and I have installed mod chips in the past on first gen xboxes and other electronics. So I am familiar with soldering, dissasembly and so fourth.

What I do know about my new Xbox360 is that it has a BENQ VAD6038 dvd drive.

I will probibally NEVER GO LIVE, its just not for me, so that is not a concern if I get banned.

Basically, this is the infomation that I am looking for:

1) Now from what I have read, there is no "useable" firmware update for the Benq dvd drive, correct?
2) Will a mod chip allow me to play backup copys of my 360 games?
3) Which mod chip supports the BENQ VAD6038 dvd drive?
4) What other hardware is needed to complete the mod?
5) What software is needed to make dvd backup copys?
6) Who do you recommend to purchase the mod chip in the USA? (Mrmodchips seems to be down)

I have been reading for days and the more I read, the more confused I am.

Please refrain from smart a$$ comments, My girlfriends patients is running a little thin, because I am spending waaay too much time reading about this hack.

Thank You in advance.

Well first off are you totally sure you have a BenQ VAD6038?. As far as I know all the newer 60gb 360s come with the newer Lite-on which is currently unflashable (may never be hacked due to improved security). The tray looks exactly the same as the BenQ so the best way to tell for sure what you have is to open up the 360 and check the sticker on top of the drive.

Either way the VAD6038 can easily be flashed without any need for a modchip. Just google "Textbook's Xbox 360 Firmware Flashing Tutorial" for all the info you need on the current flashable drives.

you dont need to open it to check, just remove the faceplate look through the hole below the tray (right hand side)
if you see yellow wires - you got a lite on
white wires - ben-q

Now tell me the bad news... there is no mod chip for this unit, correct? mad.gif

Should I return the unit and buy a refurbed one? its only 2 days old uhh.gif

is there a mod chip that will work with this newer 60gb 360 that will allow the use of backups? love.gif

really, every one of your questions could of been answered by reading the stickies and searching around the forums for a while. at least do something to help yourself before asking questions.
