Oh yeah... and my post is about to have it's 100,000th birthday.

I think we all got a shit ton done in 100,000 posts and about a year.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!

Seriously everyone...

Great job by all. Even those who have only contributed a video or three (you're credited on the spreadsheets somewhere), as well as those who have dedicated a large portion of their free time for the benefit of all are a part of this.

From here we can only go forward....

Let's make this the coolest oldskool experience that ever existed so there is effort to port it ALL beyond the XBox one day and onto a machine that is far superior to it.

Put your stamp on it!

I know....

If I only put the 2000 + executables I have on megaupload, this wouldn't be such a bummer.

I'm going to have to delete a lot of good stuff.

The problem with some of the newer virus' is that they are self modfying so they are constantly mutating thus making it hard for Virus detectors to find them. That was the problem with the one that I got bit with earlier this year. The virus detectors could not detect the mutated version.

Really sucks...

Don't need it MM? I forgot I had upped it a while back for this thread but was told I couldn't host it here.

Don't know about AIDS (since there's no porn on THIS computer). My computer was zombified there for a while. It's probably more gangrenous now than anything. Maybe leprosy.

I'm using Kaspersky now and after all the other anti-programs I've used it's so far found 4 more threats and 295 infected objects and it's only about 60% done with the testing.

The only thing I don't like about this scanner is that it doesn't allow you to see the infections before the test is done. I'm just a little impatient I guess but it's been going at least 6 hours now. (Yes it does, if you click on the report link it will show you all the current infections. Oops....)

All other scanners I've used at this point are coming up only with tracking cookies. As well as Kaspersky, I've also added Avast to my anti-program cleanup. Avast found about 20 infected things as well.

Hopefully I'm pretty clean now and I won't lose all of my EXE files. There are things I have lost so far, but it's only a small amount compared to what I've got and none of it included any of the Xtras work (just programs I use to make the Xtras).

So.... does anybody know a good picture conversion program? I used a cracked version of Digitope Picture Convert, which was awesome, but it was corrupted and I'm pretty put off from downloading any more cracks on this computer in the future. (See... I told you it was a corporate job. Mission Accomplished).

Any great, free, legal alternatives?

Cool guys... I'll check those out.

That Kaspersky antivirus must be pretty thourough.... It's been going on 15 hours and it's only 74% done with the XBox drive. 2 more drives (about 800GB) still to go after that drive...

If it hadn't already picked up 310 infections, I probably would have stopped it already but it does seem to be finding a hell of a lot of stuff that none of the other programs were able to find.

It's funny.... a majority of the .EXE files that it's finding are cracked programs. I'm wondering if these are all from this new virus or if I've had some programs with viruses that were just not tripping AVG before. Hard to tell at this point, since AVG told me my drives were clean now but Kaspersky is finding so much to complain about.

Anyways....

I didn't want to derail the Gameboy video creation there. I know a few of you were talking with MegaMan. Still haven't heard from you about your videos BC54... How are you guys coming along on that? As soon as I got this virus stuff out of the way I plan on finishing the Genesis stuff and going right to Gameboy.

Let me know,

~Rx

P.S. I need a good PDF to JPG converter now as well since my cracked program is infected. (I think it was called "AP PDF to JPG Converter" and it was a great program) I'll let you guys know if I need any other free alternatives for programs for the Xtras once I figure out what is and isn't a virus. I'm really hoping I still have an uninfected version of FlashFXP because that is the best FTP program I've ever used. EDIT: I got what I need. Nevermind.

Hey waal,

Thanks for suggesting Kaspersky man. It friggin takes forever, but it is the only anti-program I've used that noticed those two files I posted about earlier. It skipped right over the zip from megaupload with the same executables, but it spotted the two bad ones (one of which was the thing that kept infecting my PC).

I recommend the Kaspersky online scanner to anyone in here if you have virus problems in the future. The more programs you use, the better your chances of being clean, but this guy really finds a lot that the others just can't detect.

EDIT: One very interesting thing about this virus is it infected a disproportionate amount of CRACK files compared to other executables. It seems like infecting cracks for other programs is big on its to-do list.

Several programs I did have backed up with the cracks and when I copy the crack from the backup over the infected one, it is about 20 kb less and they both show the same "last modified" date.

Good to know that for the most part the cracked programs I had were clean before this virus got to them.

Alright... I think I'm good now. The only things I really need to replace:

IPS Win, Lunar IPS, CLRMAMEPro

No big deal...

Actually my PDF to JPG and my old JPG to PNG converters are just fine (the ones I put on my Thumbdrive didn't get infected like the ones that were on my hard drive after the second time I was infected and gave the virus a lot more time to do its evil).

I lost a few good guitar programs and some other stuff that might be harder to replace, but those three free programs above are all I need to replace now.

So... I have a zipfile with a few examples of the virus attached to an EXE.

Anybody want a virus as a pet?

I'm going to send it off to the Vundo guys so they can add it to their Vundo scanner.

Later,
~Rx

QUOTE(madmab @ Sep 23 2009, 01:25 AM) View Post

Yeah as nasty as viruses are getting these days it almost seems worth just setting up some virtual machines and doing a snapshot once you got them all set up. That way recovering from something like this would be faster.

I'd do it, but I really need to clean off all the crap on my systems and add some RAM. Something not likely to happen any time soon.

You don't know how I'd go about doing this, would you Madmab? I've tried Norton and Symantic Ghost in the past, but those are pains in the ass. I'd be interesting in getting my rig backed up once I get everything I use for the Xtras back on it. I'm not putting anything on that PC again since I rarely use it for anything other than the Xtras and streaming audio/video now.

I'm all good now.

I've got all the programs I need for the Xtras and they're up and running. I can even convert AVI to WMV to XMV again with no problems.

Game On!

Hey Rx, have you heard from bc54 yet? I know he was gonna finish those GBC vids soon, making all the GBC vids virtually complete.

I'm still waiting to hear from some of the other guys. smile.gif

Nope... Last I heard was he was going to get me about 70 or so vids on Sunday night at midnight.

He's in school though so I know he's busy. If I was surrounded by 19 year old co-eds again I probably wouldn't be too quick about getting this stuff done either.

I'm sure I won't have any more problems. Everything is running great and I don't think there is any way I could possibly be more thorough in my hard drive scrubbing here.
