I am hoping that this is in the right place, and that it is question is not too newbish. I have searched and gotten some good info, however I just want to be sure about my situation.

I have an unopened unmodified xbox 360 with a hitachi drive, and I also have a samsung drive that I got out of a bricked xbox 360. I would like to use the samsung drive in my working xbox, and I would like to flash the firmware so that I can backup and play my games without risk of damage to the disks. I was wondering if I just have to follow the flashing instructions for my samsung drive and use the DVD drive key for the drive in my working xbox, or do I have to do something else so that I can use the samsung drive in my xbox.

I am doing this because I would like to keep the original DVD drive in my working xbox in "as-is" condition in case there are any problems flashing the samsung drive, so that I can just switch back.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Extract key off Hitachi drive
Extract firmware off Samsung
Replace key with Hitachi key using firmware toolbox
Apply extreme firmware 1.4
Spoof Samsung as Hitachi (your drive no)

At the "Spoof Samsung as Hitachi (your drive no)" part, how do I do this? Do I just change the drive info before I flash the samsung drive? Or do I need a special program to do this?

Open your patched Samsung bin file in firmware toolbox 4.8 that is what I use
It should say Samsung TSH943A (extreme 1.4) also your drive key should match your Hitachi
Still in firmware toolbox click on tools, spoof firmware
Select the drive from the dropdown list in your case the Hitachi (donít know which model you have)
Click apply
The program overwrites your patched Samsung bin file so you need to select it again
Load it back into firmware toolbox to check to see if it is right
It should say something like this
1 Samsung TSH943A (extreme 1.4)
2 Spoofed as Hitachi? Your drive model
3 Drive key should be same as Hitachi
If everything is correct flash your Samsung drive and it will work ok
So simple when you know how

The drive uses the same f/w it always did.

Samsung - Samsung f/w

Hitachi - Hitachi f/w

LiteOn - LiteOn f/w

It controls the drive, it cannot change.

Spoofing, is simply what it reports as, one string in the f/w.
