Hi Guys

I've been looking around for a bit of a answer but could not find what I needed.

Anyways here's my situation.

Samsung MS28 not working to well disc read errors a lot. Replaced the laser still it plays up. Has Xtreme firmware on it.

Brand new Hitachi drive

I Can't find my oringial key I got from the samsung. But would it be the case of reading the firmware on the MS28 and extracting that key to put onto the new Hitachi?

Sorry if I sound dumb just a little confused by all this.

Cheers

Josh

It's a little more complicated...you have to read your sammy's firmware and use a program like Firmware Toolbox to retrieve the key. Open your samsung fw in Firmware Toolbox and highlight the key and right click copy.

Once you have the key copied you open up your Hitachi firmware in Firmware Toolbox (fresh firmware comes with Firmware Toolbox in the orig_fw folder so you don't have to extract it from your Hitachi drive, just make sure you use the right file! i.e. if your Hitachi is a v59 then the file will be 59.bin or if it's a v47 then it would be 47.bin...get it?)

After you find and open your hitachi firmware you can now paste in the key and click save key.

Finally you have to 'spoof' the Hitachi to act as a Samsung.

Go to Tools, Spoof Firmware, now choose your original drive, MS28, and click 'Apply Spoof'

This file can now be flashed to the Hitachi...once in Mode B, using Firmware Toolbox.
Note: If you want to still be able to play backups use firmware toolbox to patch the firmware with iXtreme 1.4 before you spoof it.

The latest version of Firmware Toolbox is 4.8 and can be found in the usual places... cool.gif

Hope that helped!

firmware toolbox tutorial recomends you resore the drive to the original state before you flash it
look at tutorial in firmware toolbox files

TUTORIAL ON HOW TO SPOOF A HITACHI DRIVE AS A SAMSUNG DRIVE OR AS A HITACHI FROM OTHER VERSION
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Put your Hitachi drive in ModeB with SLAX or CrossWire Trick (Hitachi 78
and above only support SLAX Method) or Power on with tray open

- Make sure you attach the Drive to the PC with a Native Sata port because
some PCI Sata cards are not supported or even some USB-SATA adapters are
not working well at this moment. Does not harm to try
- Make sure your drive is visible and has a letter asigned on Windows

- Insert a DVD Movie or an XBOX/XBOX 360 game on the Hitachi DVD drive, it
does not matter wich, originals works better.

- Launch Toolbox

- Open the Firmware File you want to spoof (I recommend the final.bin, never
do changes to the original.bin as is the base fw)

- Now go to "Tools->Spoof Firmware",

- Choose the version as you want the fw report. Leave other options as is

- Please note that spoofing a drive as itself has the effect of UNSPOOFING it

- Click "APPLY SPOOF"

- Now the Main Window will show the spoofed details, go to
"Tools->Direct Drive Flash->Flash String ID (SPOOF DATA)"

- Make sure the Hitachi drive u want to flash is selected.

- Press the "Start Flashing" button and after a few seconds the thing is done
you can shutdown everthing and start testing the drive on the console.

I have a 47DJ as a replacment. Do I flash the Hitachi with the Ixtreme 1.4 firmware first if so how to I do this.

I mean do I flash firmware for backups then spoof the drive?

Hi guys

Got the Key for the sammy. Now I have a Via 6421 Card put the hitachi in Mode B with SLax 2.1.

Now when it's in windows it see it by computer is a little slow. Go into Firmware toolbox and it's there but when I press the eject in the GUI nothing happens. ALso when I manually eject it works but says ejected will not let me read raw firmware.

Something to note it says Rom 79 with my one in firmware toolbox that mean I have a 79 Hitachi. My sticker on the drive says 47DJ.

Any Ideas?
