Sorry dude but powering an extra fan from that 3 pin isn't doing anything good, Infact probably worse!.
12v that extra fan using the DVD drive power or solder it and you have yourself a cold 360.

What I've always heard is not to power it using power from the DVD.The fan power souce is supposed to at least power the 2 60mm fans at full power(12v),as with a mod like the temperature will not increase that much for the 360 put the fans at full power, adding a 80mm is not an issue at all.

Only now I realised that you could be referring to the fact that the fans are not at full power(12v),I prefer it to heat a little more for less noise, the temperature is great, the heatsink is only ~10C more than ambient temperature now. smile.gif

Don't ever use DVD drive power. Especially when there's perfectly good 12v sources on the bottom pins of your power cord connector port.

Well, I like it.

...of course, I also think the picture needs a caption. Something like: "for some reason, for 2 years MicroSoft could not verify any RRoD problem..."

Are you sure you're getting enough airflow?

j/k.. that's pretty funny man. it reminds me of when i was doing mods on my 360 and had all the parts layed out across my workbench while it was running. I always thought about just bolting it to some plexi or somethin and making a mount for fans.

pretty sweet.. as long as it works just fine, it's a good mod. kinda makes me want to do something similar in my living room muhaha.gif

Actually I wouldn't be that surprised if that actually makes the system run hotter.

It's a lot cooler,as you you see in the picture I was running the fans from the fan pins without any mod to increase the voltage,I checked the voltage during playing and it would never go above 5.4v,I thought it was too little and soldered the wires to 12v and ground and using a potentiometer to give a voltage of 7.5V to the fans, now the heatpipe barely gets warm to the touch.

The wood boards are being hang by a screw on the wall, the dvd drive is being hold by [a lot of] scotch tape, the motherboard is being hold by 5 hanger screws with a nut on the side of the motherboard and a nut on the other side of the wood board. The hard disk is also being gold by scotch tape,so do the fans laugh.gif

That would be difficult to put,I wouldn't have where to suport it,and it would be worse as it would have a significant distance from the gpu, this setups gives better temps tongue.gif

I'm sure it doesn't,and how could it run any hotter?

I could have used plexiglass,it would be nicer, but less ghetto laugh.gif
